Lamp Shades Yield Real Benefits
When you're thinking about redecorating a room, propbably one of the last things you think about is what to do about lamp shades. You're more concerned with pain colors, window treatments, flooring and other bigger concerns. But don't forget the lamp shades. Not only are these little guys a decorative plus, but they serve a very pracytical purpose as well. Read on for more insight.
Why a Great Lamp Shade is a Must
It's funny that we want our living space to be full of light yet we pay big bucks to put shades on our lamps. Yet those lamp shades do have many purposes. We don't need to feel guilty buying them!
Bright light is very harsh
If you see the light from a bare bulb it is a very stark light - just remember what it is like many moons ago (at least for me!) at the end of the school dance when they put the lights fully up and it will give you some idea or imagine a prisoner under interrogation in a police cell. A bare bulb does not give off a pleasant light and it does little to flatter your skin tones. A light with a lamp shade means a softer light in the room.
A Lamp Shade Directs the Light
A light bulb without a shade sends light in all directions - you will light the walls, the floor and the ceiling with a bare bulb. A lamp shade directs light more to where you want it, either into the room using a ceiling or pendant shade or a soft pool of light around a table with a table lamp.
A Lamp Shade Shields Your Eyes
It can be quite jarring to catch sight of the light from a bare bulb - the glare can hurt your eyes. Shading your lights mean that you will never "blind" anyone with your bare bulbs.
A Lamp Shade Enhances Your Room Decor
Shades come in many shapes and sizes, colors and styles and, carefully chosen, they can add considerably to the theme, look and feel of a room. The right lamp can be a focal point in a room scheme and a great decorative touch or it may be simply the means to add lighting in the right place without detracting from the scheme. In any case, lampshades can add a drop of color to a bleak room or add to and blend in with the colors scheme you have chosen.
If you spend time and trouble (not to mention money) selecting the right shades it will pay dividends in how pleased you are with your finished room scheme. The right lamp shades, carefully chosen, are a must for any room. Don't make them an afterthought in your room planning. Think about them from the start.
